The CERN controversy and Nostradamus

For the last few months controversy has been building in the physics community around this summer’s opening of the Large Hadron Collider at the CERN laboratory in Europe. The LHC will become the world’s largest particle accelerator.

Here’s the CERN response to the charges that the accelerator will create Earth-devouring mini-black holes or strangelets — and not surprisingly I believe the scientists have it correct. This is a completely safe machine that will produce some fascinating physics.
